Rabindranath Tagore’s Birthday

Rabindranath Tagore is one of the most famous legends of India. Due to his contribution to making a great India, he is still remembering by the Indian Citizens as a great legend. ‘Gurudev’, his another name, which is a most popular name among the Indian Citizens. The birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore is celebrated in India as a festival.

Significance

Rabindranath Tagore or Gurudev was born in Calcutta on 7th May 1861. Rabindranath Tagore was a famous writer and he was well in Literature and music. Due to his contribution in writing, in the year 1913, Rabindranath Tagore became the first Indian who win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Rabindranath Tagore is that famous person who had written the national anthems for the two different countries that are India and Bangladesh. He wrote the national anthem Jana Gana Mana for India and the national anthem Amar Sonar Bangla for Bangladesh.

Rabindranath Tagore started to write poetry when he was just eight years old. At the age of 16 years, old Rabindranath Tagore published his first assemblage of poems under Bhanusimha. In the year of 1877, when Rabindranath Tagore was just 16 years old, he was publishing the short stories and dramas with his own name.

Early Days and Life

Rabindranath Tagore was belonging to a well-educated and rich family and he started his education from his home and in the year of 1878, at the age of 17 years old Rabindranath Tagore was gone to England for his formal schooling. He went to England but he did not complete his studies there. Later, he was enrolled to learn the law. But he had again dropped out there and started to learn Shakespeare works in his own way.

After completing his education to learn the essence of English, Scottish, and Irish literature and music, Rabindranath Tagore returns back to India and then he got married.

Rabindranath Tagore established an experimental school in Shantiniketan in his father’s property and he started to execute his Upanishadic ideals of education.

In the year of 1915, Rabindranath Tagore was knighted by the British Government but after few years Tagore resigned from this honor which given by the ruling British Government and he supported the protest against British ruling policies in India. Another name of Rabindranath Tagore, Gurudev is given by the Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of his love and respect for Rabindranath Tagore.

Nobel Laureate

Rabindranath Tagore was known as a Nobel Laureate. Rabindranath Tagore wrote fifty and odd volumes of poetries. He also created many famous dramas and plays. Many novels, as well as several volumes of short stories, were created by Rabindranath Tagore. He also created many musical dramas, essays of all types, dance dramas, travel diaries, and two autobiographies also.

And before his death in 1941, Rabindranath Tagore left behind him many fabulous drawings and paintings, and his created songs also. In the year of 7th August 1941, Rabindranath Tagore died.

Celebration

The birthday of Rabindranath Tagore is celebrated in India as a restricted holiday. In the remembrance of Rabindranath Tagore, several cultural programs and many poetry recitals are organized by the local people’s all across the state.

Every year several events and programs are organized in the remembrance of Rabindranath Tagore at Rabindra Sadan, Jarosanka and the University of Shantiniketan. After these events, prizes are distributed among the competitors.
