Sringeri Teppotsava

Festivity of Teppotsava

Teppotsava (Float festival) of main temple deities are held in the evening in Sringeri on this day.

As a part of the festivities, three Murtis of Lord Sri Varaha Swami, Sri Sharadamba and Sri Tungabhadra Devi respective are erected on the southern bank of the Tungabhadra river adjoining Narasimhavana (Guru Nivas).

The Ubhaya (both) Jagadgurus arrives at the Southern bank late in the evening and prior to the Teppotsava.  Both of them perform Pushpanjali and Deeparadhana seva to the Murtis (Idols).

Thence, a grand Teppotsava (ceremoniously carrying God/Goddess on a boat and ferrying across the river and back) of God is carried out on the Tungabhadra River. The Ubhaya Jagadgurus grace this event and have Darshan of the Utsava Murti on the Teppam (float).

Earlier, an Aratrika (ritual waving of lights) is performed on the northern bank of the Tungabhadra river.
