Goddess Lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of wealth, prosperity (both material and spiritual), fortune, fertility and the embodiment of beauty. She is said to bring good luck and is believed to protect her devotees from all kinds of misery and money-related sorrows. She is also the personification of the spiritual fulfillment.

This festival is celebrated for 4 Thursdays in the month of Margashira. This month is dedicated to God Vishnu and Lakshmi. Thursdays of this month are considered auspicious for goddess Lakshmi. Special poojas are performed in temples, homes and offer special naivedya are offered to the goddess Lakshmi on this day. This festival is celebrated all over south India also. For prosperity and peaceful living, People from all walks of life celebrate this festival seeking the blessing of the Goddess Lakshmi.

Significance and Benefits

Pooja Procedure

Observe the usual purification ritual before starting the pooja like sprinkling water on the self. God Ganesha is worshiped first. After this, perform Lakshmi Shodashopachara pooja and Ashtottaram and offer special Naivedya to the godess.

After performing the pooja the story of Margashira Lakshmi pooja is recited and Aarti is performed to the godess Mahalaskhmi. In some places Lakshami Purana is also recited. Women who observe Margashira Lakshmi pooja will be relived from all problems and Goddess Lakshmi blesses them with prosperity, health and wealth.
