World Red Cross and Red Crescent
Day is an annual celebration of the principles of the International Red Cross
and Red Crescent Movement. World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is celebrated on
8th May each year. This date is the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant,
who was born on 8 May 1828. He was the founder of International Committee of
the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
Celebration
The celebrations aim to pay
tribute to the volunteers who participated in the event as well as welcome
their precious contribution to helping people in need. Mainly, World Red Cross
Day focus on the food shortage, natural calamities, war as well as diseases of
the epidemic.
There are almost 97 million
members and also many Volunteers which are of the Red Crescent as well as Red
Cross. They are honored to do every task for the humans for providing them
relief to the Worldwide which consists of the 170 Nations. There are about 240
Lakhs people are profited by the help of the Workers of the Red Cross
activities. The Red Cross Committee creates awareness about the need for life
protection in some drastic conditions.
The principles of the Red Cross
Truce was presented and approved in the year 1934 on the 15th International
Conference at Tokyo. This day is celebrated by the people on an international
level to diminish people’s suffering, protecting their life from emergencies
and lots of natural disasters including epidemic diseases, floods, and
earthquakes and enhancing their dignity. It is celebrated by the various Red
Cross organizations across the world to help people with its fundamental
principles like independence, humanity, impartiality, universality, neutrality,
voluntary, and unity.
Various events and programmes are
organised on World Red Cross Day at many places to help people free of cost. 50
volunteers are enrolled by the District Red Cross Branches and 25 volunteers by
the taluka Red Cross Branches to offer the humanitarian services every year.
