Kavuru Mahalingeshwara Temple is
dedicated to Hindu God Shiva and is located at Kavuru Village, which is about 5
km from Mangalore. This important Shiva temple in Dakshina Kannada District is
located near a vast lake.
The main
deity worshipped in the shrine is Mahalingeshwara. The temple is believed to be
more than 600 years old and was an important center of worship in Tulunadu.
The Shivling faces east and was
established by Saint Kuvera. The place took its name from Kuvera Rishi. It is
also believed that Shiva gave darshan to the Saint at the spot where the
present day shrine stands.
The most important festivals in the temple are Mahashivratri,
Sri Krishna Jayanti and annual temple festival.
